If you are looking for the differences between K9 Advantix and K9 Advantix II you have come to the right place because we are going to tell you all you need to know about the K9 Advantix vs. K9 Advantix II debate.
The original K9 Advantix is still available on a limited basis online, but I doubt you will be able to find it with much success at your local brick and mortar pet supply store. I have not seen this product in quite some time. Obviously, the Advantix II is the newer, shinier, sexier product and can be found anywhere flea and tick medication is sold.
Bayer, the manufacturer of Advantix, announced the introduction of Advantix II in January of 2011.
The product hit the shelves in March of that year.
Much like how Merial, the maker of the Frontline family of products, introduced Frontline Plus with an insect growth regulator (IGR) in 2001, Bayer also added an IGR to their formula to kill flea eggs and larvae. Their specific formula changes called for the addition of pyriproxyfen.
K9 Advantix II maintained all the previous insect fighting and killing properties of the original formula which included its ability to kill and repel adult fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. By repelling these insects you decrease the number of flea bites your dog will get and minimize the opportunity to transmit infectious diseases. Now in addition, the newer version also kills flea eggs and larvae.
The addition of pyriproxyfen has catapulted Advantix II to the head of the pack in the flea and tick control spot-on topical treatment segment. Advantix II offers the most comprehensive medicinal fighting properties available over the counter and is by far the best flea treatment for dogs.
